What do all these dates and names have in common is a question you may ask. One is that each name is of one of the many presidents of the United States. Two is the dates are the dates of each ones Inaugural address. The first ever Inaugural address was done April 30, 1789 by none other than the United States first president George Washington. Many have heard and Inaugural address but just in case you happen not to know what one is an Inaugural address is a speech given during a ceremony which informs the people of his or her intentions as a leader. In this case it would be a presidential address by the United States 35th president John F. Kennedy. Every Inaugural address is a big event especially when it’s our nation’s commander and chief speaking to the nation. But January 20, 1961 was a day like no other. Life has a tendency to cruelly throw darts at humanity without any kind of reservation or remorse. In Elisabeth Bishop’s â€Å"The Fish,† the narrator is the fisher woman. Upon catching a tremendous fish and analyzing it carefully, she is reminded of her life. She notices the fish is not fighting to stay alive. He just hung there, still, and ready to die. This reminds her of her own life. She is now faced with the memory of the many scars that life has brought her. She’s not willing to fight as she once did. Age has really taken a toll on her, demanding her once youthful strength. The author speaks of the fish saying, â€Å"He hung a grunting weight, battered and vulnerable and homely† (7-9). The fisher woman found a similarity with her life and the fish’s life. She made a distinct connection between her life and this small creature. Older and more experienced, the fisher woman is reminded of her past afflictions. Now old and gray which are signs of aging, as the fish’s lips that give away his age. The lips are an important sign because the hooks and lines they have in their mouth demonstrates their experience. The fish in the poem declares â€Å"hung five pieces of fish- line† (51), showing how many times the fish had previously been caught and released again. Each line represents the many endeavors the fish had accomplished by conquering those hooks. As with people who overcome adversity and scars inhabit their life, the fish also has scars that remain as an indication of previous struggles. Wisdom and understanding is gained as things in life happen. For the fish, he gains wisdom and understanding each time he escaped a net or a line which is shown by his scars. A person gains wisdom and understanding with the trials they are faced with and that age has brought them. These are reminders to people as well as for fish. A person may have loved ones who have passed away, or possibly experienced some kind of trauma. All these tribulations serve for gaining wisdom and understanding in life. In conclusion, the fisher woman, by looking and observing the fish closely, is reminded of all the previous trials she had in her life. The scars in his lips, the â€Å"five-haired beard of wisdom† (62) helps her think of herself. She notices the rainbow of colors reflecting from the oil on the boat, reminding her of the fish’s accomplishments. Even though the fish is small, it somehow provokes a sense of relation with herself. She relates these attributes of the fish with maturity, adversity, trials, wisdom, and understanding. She encounters a close identification with the fish. Filled by this emotional connection and compassion for the fish, she let him go. Transformational leadership is an approach that reasons variations in individual and corporate systems. Positive and valuable changes are obtained by applying these approaches. Transformational leadership involves the motivation of determination and concerts of the followers through various mechanisms. It connects the sense of follower to identify the mission and communal character of the group or organization, inspire them and follows the challenges. It understands the strength and weakness of the members try to inspire them. A leader can line up the followers with their work and optimize their performance. Transactional leadership theory is the approach in which a relation of exchange means the followers need any reward exchange in the desire of the work. Such as the employee needs increment in salary, leaders freely allocate the rewards to the employee according to his performance. In transactional leadership the employees have more trust on the leader in comparison to the objective assessments of performance. There is a transparency between the work-done and its reward so it motivates the employees more. Bass has said that Transactional leaders work according to the culture of organization whereas transformational workers change the culture of the organization (Nye, J.S., 2006). In transactional approach leaders make a link between the efforts and their reward whereas in case of transformational theory leaders arises the emotions of employees towards the organization. Motivation is provided to the workers by setting the goals and promising them to rewards for achieving that goal on the other side learning opportunities are created for the followers and stimulated them to solve the challenges. A good leader uses both of these theories according to the requirement of the organizational growth. I have the abilities to convince people for performing any work. I will provide the followers benefits for making good relationship with them (Alimo-Metcalfe, 2001). Analysis of Leadership in terms of leadership approach Leadership quality can be explored in terms of ethics, values and behaviors. Two different approaches of leadership can be utilized in the advancement of an organization. Ethical theories are represented in two different forms: first are those related to the leaders behavior and second are the leaders characters. These theories focus on the action that lead to cost whether the actions are good or bad. The leader performs his actions for motivating his followers those should be convincing to the followers. In my respect I will try to convince the followers using both approaches of leadership according to the requirement. Behavior of the leader should be polite and his character should be ideal to his followers. Nature of the leader should be inspirational and attractive. An ideal leader should have the ability to examine right and wrong in rapports of values that reflects the concerns of the followers with maintaining his self-respect. The importance and standard an individual gets in his society or place is called the value. Value enables the leader to build his relations with his followers and create a bound of trust and commitment with the employees. Leader is a primary organizer of processes that drive the business. Followers are dependent on the leaders so the responsibility of the leader towards his followers increases. Values are the primary ways to create connection with the employees. Leadership behavior drives the commitment of the employee. Following behaviors of the leaders affects the employees: giving inspiration and motivation to the workers, a critical behavior to success is the drive for results; good collaboration with the employees, leaders can produce faith by being aware of the concerns, ambitions, and conditions of others. Reality is that we trust our friends more than the enemies. It can be erected through information and expertise. I have the ability to build strong relation with my friend and batch-mates. I can make a good collaboration between my team members hence I think that I have the quality of critical behavior of a leader. Building relationship is another feature of leadership. Leaders make balance in the commitment between the followers and other requirements. They achieve results with satisfying the followers also. They make balances between the organizational deadline and the individual needs also. Leaders make his follower to feel his value also and create a strong bound between them. When Kyle, who has resumed his drinking habits after his visit to the doctor, is brought home by Mitch and Lucy; and Marylee is dropped by the police at home together with Biff, Jasper is exasperated by the behavior of his children. At this point, he mentions to Mitch of how his marriage has been a flunk, how his relationship with his brother has worsened, and finally, how his two children have developed a reputation that is contrary to his desires. It gives an account of the real life scandal that involved Libby Holman and her husband Zachary Smith Reynolds, who was a tobacco heir. However, in the film, Gorge Zuckerman, the man in charge of the screen play, changes the characters and the location of the source of the family wealth. He shifts it to Texas from North Carolina and substitutes the tobacco with oil. In conclusion, the film can be categorized as both a shaper of the 1950’s culture and a reflection of it. The film is reflection of the culture because it depicts how people in the 1950’s were so much indulged in the pursuit of riches and fame that in the process, they lost track of what was valuable to society; that is family. It also reflects how people in power during this period put on facades and hid their true nature and problems behind these facades. Kyle for example was wearing a â€Å"dashing playboy† faà §ade to hide the fact that he could not be what his father expected him to be and that he had problems. The film is a shaper because it points out the societal ills that were present in the 1950’s. It was therefore an eye opener to everyone who was living in this era that the society was slowly decaying and the morals were slowly being lost. However, the shaping function of the film is very minimal when compared to the reflection function because not much change was initiated after the film was released.
